Streamline Shipping Group recently paid a special visit to a Primary 3 class at Glaitness Primary School in Kirkwall, who are currently learning all about transport as part of their classroom project.
The idea came from pupil Cohen McCulloch, whose grandfather Michael works at Streamline. When Cohen suggested the visit to his teacher, Paige Archibald, the entire class was eager for a firsthand look at a heavy goods vehicle.
Following careful planning and risk assessment, members of the Streamline team brought one of the company’s HGVs to the school, giving pupils the opportunity to see the vehicle up close, climb into the cab and learn more about how these trucks operate. For many pupils, the chance to sound the horn proved to be a particular highlight.
Streamline also brought along one of its new escort vehicles, which supports the safe movement of oversized project cargo on the roads across Orkney.
The school visit gave pupils a practical insight into the transport and logistics industry while also linking directly to their classroom project.
Afterwards, the class delivered a collection of handmade thank-you cards to the Streamline team – a thoughtful gesture that was very much appreciated. We may even have inspired some future drivers and logistics specialists along the way…
If you think Streamline could provide value in your local community, please get in touch – we are proud to support local schools and community initiatives across Orkney and beyond.
