  • Streamline Backing Double Gold Islander

Held for the 6th successive year at the Sports Excellence Centre at Heriot Watt University’s Riccarton Campus, the event sees Heriot Watt team up with Concept 2 competition team to turn indoor rowing into a very exciting spectator sport.

In the 2000m Open Mens event, the 6’9” islander, already affectionately known in rowing circles as The Viking, saw his main competition as coming from fellow Scot Andrew Sangster and ex Russian Olympiad, Evgenii Trofimov. But while the latter pair fought out a very close race for second place, with solid 500m negative split times of 1.31.8: 1.31.6: 1:30.6: 1.29.1 and a finishing time of 6.03.0, the Orkney lad was a class apart.

An hour later and in the final race of the day, Corrigall again put down his awesome power and gave a classy demonstration of aggressive but controlled rowing, taking the 500m sprint title in 1m17.3s , some 10 m ahead of his nearest rival.

Now training in Reading and based out of the Molesey club, Corrigall’s punishing schedule is surely paying dividends. His times on the day represent significant improvement over last year and it is clear that the Orkney man will not be out of place among the Great Britain elite in the season ahead.

Meanwhile Gareth Crichton, Director of Streamline Shipping Group, one of Scotland’s leading haulage distribution and seafreight suppliers and operator of lifeline cargo services to the Northern Isles, confirmed a long term sponsorship commitment from the company to support the islander as he continues his journey to the top of UK rowing. Crichton said, “Streamline Shipping Group is delighted to get on board with Sean. We like the idea of a local lad, coming late to the sport, and proving that he can mix it with the very best through a blend of raw talent and hard work.”

On the basis of this weekend’s performances the young Orcadian will shortly be making his mark.
