As the global logistics industry works toward ambitious net zero targets, businesses across the sector are having to think differently about everything from fuel choices to fleet management. At Streamline Shipping Group, sustainability is not just a commitment – it’s a strategy that informs how we operate, invest, and innovate.
We recently took part in the Port Zero Roundtable in Aberdeen, a major maritime decarbonisation forum hosted by Port of Aberdeen. This gave us the opportunity to collaborate with other industry leaders on how to reduce emissions in port and freight operations – and to share how our own logistics decarbonisation strategy is evolving.
Sustainable Logistics in Action: What We’re Doing
Streamline’s approach to carbon reduction in logistics is broad and practical. Here are some of the key areas we’re actively investing in to support lower-emission operations:
1. Exploring Alternative Fuels
We’re currently assessing the rollout of HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) across our UK road fleet and depots. HVO has the potential to cut CO₂ emissions by up to 90% and requires no modifications to existing vehicles – making it a viable near-term solution in the shift toward greener transport.
2. Hydrogen HGV Trials in the UK
Through partnerships with Scottish Enterprise and government-led programmes, we’re participating in early-stage hydrogen HGV trials, exploring long-term solutions for clean heavy goods transport.
Reducing Emissions Across Our Operations
From road to sea, our sustainable logistics practices cover multiple operational areas:
- 100% Euro 6 compliant fleet
- Telematics and fuel optimisation tools
- Electric delivery vehicles in Scottish regions
- Double-deck trailers to improve efficiency
- Qargo software to optimise routing
- On-site emissions management through ECOurea, our in-house environmental products division
Supporting Cleaner Marine Transport
Through our ECOurea division, we manufacture and supply:
- AdBlue for road transport (up to 80% NOx reduction)
- AUS40 for marine vessels (up to 95% NOx reduction, IMO Tier III compliant)
This gives us a unique position – we’re not just lowering emissions internally, but also helping our clients adopt eco-friendly freight solutions across their supply chains.
Innovation Through R&D and Clean Tech Partnerships
We’re proud to collaborate on zero-carbon transport innovation, including:
- Drone delivery trials with Highlands & Islands Airports
- Hydrogen-powered marine trials (ACUA Ocean)
- Heavy cargo drone logistics (SATE)
- Orkney-based green tech pilots
These projects help push the boundaries of what sustainable logistics can look like across remote and urban areas alike.
Our Roadmap to a Net Zero Supply Chain
Here’s what we’re focusing on next as part of our 2025–2026 plan:
- Wider adoption of HVO fuel across the fleet
- Expansion of electric vehicle coverage
- Enhanced emissions tracking systems
- Net zero drone logistics trials in UK offshore islands
- Further investment in marine emissions solutions (AUS40)
Collaboration Is Key
Our participation in the Port Zero Maritime Decarbonisation Roundtable reinforced what we already believe – that reducing emissions in logistics and shipping requires collaboration. From port authorities and hauliers to technology providers and government, we all have a role to play.
At Streamline, we remain focused on delivering efficient, low-emission logistics solutions without compromising on reliability or customer service.
