We have an immediate opportunity for a Transport Supervisor to join our Operations team in Aberdeen.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience within the transport and logistics industry who is looking to develop their operational and supervisory knowledge and take the next step in their career.
The purpose of the role will be to support the Transport Manager with the day to day running of our transport operation, covering local, distance and radial distribution, while developing a detailed understanding of all aspects of the department.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Transport Manager and will be trained across the wider transport function, with the ability to provide additional supervisory support and cover during holidays and other periods of absence.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the Transport Manager with the day to day running of transport operations
- Assisting with the planning, scheduling and coordination of local, distance and radial distribution
- Supervising and supporting our team of drivers
- Allocating work and assisting with daily driver and vehicle planning
- Monitoring workloads and responding to changes or operational issues throughout the day
- Developing a good understanding of drivers hours, Working Time regulations and other relevant transport legislation
- Assisting with vehicle and fleet compliance, including maintenance schedules and defect reporting
- Monitoring driver performance and ensuring company procedures and standards are followed
- Liaising with customers, drivers and other departments to ensure operational requirements are met
- Assisting with the investigation and resolution of operational and service issues
- Ensuring accurate transport records and systems are maintained
- Supporting the Transport Manager with compliance, reporting and other departmental responsibilities
- Providing supervisory cover for the transport operation during holidays and periods of absence
The successful candidate will have previous experience within a transport, distribution or logistics environment and a good understanding of the demands of a busy transport operation.
Knowledge of vehicle and driver regulations, drivers hours and fleet compliance would be advantageous, although further training and development will be provided as part of the role.
You will have strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills, together with the confidence to work with and supervise drivers and make operational decisions when required.
A good working knowledge of IT and freight/transport systems is required.
A Transport Manager CPC qualification would be advantageous but is not essential.
