Reducing Emissions Across Our Road Operations
Road transport remains a key part of our logistics network. We're implementing ways to reduce the emissions associated with moving freight, from our vehicles to the fuels we use, and how we plan each journey.
Electric delivery vehicles
Our electric vans are already operating in Scotland, including on suitable delivery routes, to help eliminate tailpipe emissions. We're continuing to expand our electric fleet where routes and vehicle range allow.
HVO fuel trials at the Port of Aberdeen
Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) is a drop-in replacement for conventional diesel that can cut CO₂ emissions by up to 90%, depending on how the fuel is sourced and produced. It needs no vehicle modifications, performs better in cold weather, and can be used in both our road fleet and depot forklifts.
Our HVO trials help us to understand how alternative fuels can support lower-carbon road freight, without losing sight of the reliability and operational requirements our customers expect.
Euro 6 vehicles and AdBlue systems

Our road fleet is 100% Euro 6 compliant. This emissions standard sets limits for pollutants produced by vehicle exhausts, including nitrogen oxides (NOx).
AdBlue works with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems to cut NOx emissions from eligible vehicles by up to 80%. We manufacture it in-house, so our own fleet’s supply is secure.
Smarter routes and more efficient journeys
Reducing the environmental impact of freight also means looking at how journeys are planned and vehicles are used. We use telematics, Qargo route-planning technology and aerodynamic double-deck trailers to improve operational efficiency and make best use of our fleet.
Supporting Emissions Reduction on Land and at Sea
Through ECOurea, we manufacture and supply emissions-reduction products for road, marine and industrial applications. This gives us an additional way to support customers operating in sectors where emissions compliance and reliable chemical supply are essential.
- AdBlue: an aqueous urea solution used in compatible diesel vehicles equipped with SCR systems, helping to reduce NOx emissions.
- AUS40: A 40% urea solution for marine SCR systems, cutting NOx emissions by up to 95% and meeting IMO Regulation 13 Tier III. Ideal for vessels in Emission Control Areas (ECAs).
- ECOurea solutions: Emissions-reduction chemicals, reagents and blending systems, supporting a range of industrial and transport applications involving SCR, selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR) and sulphur oxide (SOx) reduction technologies.

Different Solutions for Different Emissions Challenges
There’s no single route to reducing emissions across every part of the supply chain. At Streamline, each solution has a different application, and actual emissions reductions depend on the technology, fuel source and operating conditions.
Electric vehicles Up to 100% reduction in tailpipe emissions on local deliveries.
HVO Up to 90% CO₂ reduction across our road fleet.
AdBlue Up to 80% NOx reduction in Euro 6 vehicles.
AUS40 Up to 95% NOx reduction for marine vessels.
Innovation and R&D Partnerships

What’s next for freight?
We work with industry and research partners to test and develop technologies that improve transport efficiency, reduce emissions and strengthen connectivity across Scotland.
- Drone delivery trials in the Highlands & Islands
Our work with Windracers and the Sustainable Aviation Test Environment (SATE) has demonstrated that autonomous cargo drones can support deliveries to remote island communities.
In Orkney, we’ve flown more than 2,000km in a UK-first drone delivery network trial, showing how drones can complement existing networks where distance and geography make deliveries difficult.
- Hydrogen-powered road freight
As a trial partner with Scottish Enterprise and the Scottish Government, we’re helping to develop hydrogen-powered heavy goods vehicles.
- New marine technologies
Our partnerships also extend to emerging marine transport technologies, including hydrogen vessel trials with ACUA Ocean. These projects help develop lower-emission options for industries that rely on moving goods by sea.
- Working with partners towards lower-emission ports
Collaboration with port and industry partners, including work connected with Port of Aberdeen's net zero ambitions, helps us engage with the wider changes taking place across freight, shipping and marine operations.

The Road Ahead: 2026 and Beyond
Our carbon journey is ongoing. Looking ahead, we're focused on developing the measures already in progress and assessing further opportunities to reduce emissions across our operations.
Our priorities include:
- Expanding HVO trials where operationally suitable.
- Adding electric delivery vehicles in our communities.
- Developing our AUS40 production and supply capabilities.
- Improving emissions tracking and reporting.
- Continuing zero-carbon drone trials across the UK’s offshore islands.
What It Means for Your Supply Chain

Your choice of logistics partner can influence the environmental impact of your supply chain. At Streamline, we're working to make transport more efficient while offering lower-emission options for moving goods.
Supporting Scope 3 emissions objectives
Transport and distribution can contribute to a business's Scope 3 emissions. Our work on lower-emission transport options can help customers reduce their logistics-related impact.
Improving visibility through data
Qargo route-planning technology supports our transport operations. Better operational data helps inform discussions about transport efficiency and emissions reporting.
Standards and continual improvement
Our management systems are certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, reflecting our established approach to quality, environmental management and occupational health and safety. For customers, this means working with a logistics provider that takes operational standards, environmental management and continual improvement seriously.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is low-carbon logistics?
Low-carbon logistics means reducing the greenhouse gas emissions associated with transporting, handling and distributing goods. This can involve alternative fuels, electric vehicles, better route planning, more efficient use of transport capacity and new technologies to help reduce the environmental impact of freight. At Streamline, that includes a 100% Euro 6 fleet, electric vans, HVO trials and in-house emissions-reduction products.
- How can low-carbon freight reduce a business's emissions?
Transport can contribute to a business's Scope 3 emissions, depending on its operations and reporting boundaries. Working with a logistics provider that is investing in lower-emission transport options and operational efficiency can help a business identify opportunities to reduce the emissions associated with moving its goods.
- What is the difference between HVO, AdBlue and AUS40?
HVO is an alternative fuel that can reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions compared with conventional diesel, depending on its source and production. AdBlue is used in compatible road vehicles with SCR systems to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions. AUS40 is a urea solution used in compatible marine SCR systems for the same general purpose. They serve different applications and address different emissions.
- How is Streamline reducing emissions across its logistics operations?
Streamline is working on several fronts, including electric delivery vehicles, HVO trials, a Euro 6-compliant road fleet, route-planning technology, emissions-reduction chemicals and research partnerships developing drone and hydrogen transport. The combination of measures reflects the different requirements of road, marine and island logistics.
